Herbert Hager是维也纳自然资源和生命科学大学（原维也纳农业大学）教授，世界知名的森林生态学家和森林水文学家。1969年获维也纳农业大学森林科学学士学位；1971年获美国犹他州立大学理学硕士学位；1975年获德国慕尼黑大学森林科学博士学位。1975年到1986年，维也纳农业大学森林与土壤科学系助教授；1987年华盛顿大学西雅图分校林学院客座教授；1986年至今，维也纳农业大学森林与土壤科学系终生教授；1996年日本信州大学客座教授；2004年肯尼亚内罗毕国际农林研究中心（ICRAF）会见科学家。1990—2000年担任国际林联森林气象学分会主席，2010年获得捷克农业和森林科学大学的孟德尔勋章。

???1975年至今，曾主講過森林微氣候學、森林氣象學和氣候學、森林立地制圖、森林與水、水文過程和水質、山區農林業、立地生態學等多門課程。
